What do you think of non-leather bags that have the texture of leather? I just picked up this vegan-friendly bag by Santa Barbara-based designer Jeremy Bassan of Big Buddha. It dressed up a pair of black skinny jeans and a grey bomber jacket. It comes with a thin gold chain which allows me to wear it across the body. California casual.

"This is it" - A reminder that human nature is complex and beautiful

I watched the premiere of "Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' " in a theatre in Greater LA with my dad and I am so glad that I did. This documentary film reveals Michael's sensitivity and his artistic genius. There is strength in fragility and Michael embodies both attributes. I feel fortunate to have grown up in the age of Jackson.

5.0 Quake hits Los Angeles

SoCal is rockin' and a rollin'. We just had a 5.0 quake, but I didn't feel it. The center was closer to the city of L.A. I am in the county. I have noticed two strange things, though. First, the air conditioning went "off-line" in our building this afternoon and it is still not on yet. (Today, the high was 91.) The second strange thing... for the past two nights there have been no serenades from the coyotes...
